On Sunday, November 5, 2017, SCI Technology’s David Worthy was pinned as a Lieutenant Colonel with the Alabama Army National Guard. In addition, David assumed change of command at Ft. McClellan in Anniston, Alabama, as Battalion Commander, 2nd Battalion (Officer Candidate School), 200th Regiment.

David has served his country for more than 27 years, having begun his career in the Alabama National Guard in 1990 as a Private First Class (PFC) Armor Crewman, M1 Tank driver. He has been a gunner and was later a Staff Sergeant, M1A2 Tank Commander. Prior to becoming an officer, David attended the Alabama Military Academy (AMA) Officer Candidate School (OCS).

In 1999, David was commissioned as an Armor Platoon Leader and later branch transferred to MP and took command of an MP Company shortly before being deployed to Iraq. He was blessed with a great team of soldiers that got the company in and out of Iraq with no injuries or loss of life. Most recently, David has worked at the 226 Maneuver Enhancement Brigade (MEB) in Mobile, Alabama, as the Chief of Operations. With his most recent promotion, David stepped into Battalion Command at the AMA OCS.

In his duties with SCI, David serves as Senior Systems Integration Lead. He joined the company in January of 2017.

SCI extends its congratulations to David and his family!

Here at SCI Technology, we often talk about how supporting our veterans is a priority. So when the opportunity arose to sponsor the a golf tournament for wounded veterans, we decided to put our money where our mouth is.

On Friday, October 13, the Salute Military Golf Association (SMGA) will hold their 2017 Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament here in Huntsville. SCI is sponsoring the event. More importantly, we’re encouraging everyone to support this worthy cause.

SMGA is a non-profit corporation with a stated mission to provide rehabilitative golf experiences and family-inclusive golf opportunities for veterans wounded post-9/11. In providing these opportunities, SMGA aims to improve the veterans’ quality of life, build relationships, and aid in the healing process.

Huntsville’s Wounded Warrior Golf Tournament will be held at the Hampton Cove Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. Sign-in begins at 6:30 a.m.

Further information is available here. Additionally, SMGA accepts online donations through this portal.

SCI has served as a Department of Defense (DoD) contractor for more than half a century, with much of that experience coming in supply chain and logistics. So when the Senior Logistics Advanced Course (SLAC) decided to visit Sanmina and SCI, we thought it represented a great opportunity.

It did.

Last week, SCI and Sanmina hosted 30 Department of Army Civilian students from SLAC. SLAC is a professional development course offered by the University of Alabama-Huntsville (UAH) through the U.S. Army’s Civilian Logistics Career Management Office (CLCMO).

Based on the feedback we heard from the students, we believe the visit was a resounding success.

“Hosting these students will help Sanmina and SCI build stronger relationships with the men and women responsible for supporting the Army’s supply chain,” SCI President Mike Underwood said. “Civilians perform crucial duties in support of our Armed Forces, and SCI is proud to assist them in the development of their careers.”

Civilian logisticians play a vital role in the Army’s global supply chain, supporting Sustainable Army Readiness by creating and implementing logistics policies, programs and plans. Visiting SCI and Sanmina’s 685,000 square foot facility provided SLAC students with a chance to leverage Sanmina’s expertise in supply chain operations, as well as SCI’s extensive experience with DoD manufacturing.

CLCMO, which provides life-cycle career management services to Department of the Army (DA) civilians seeking strategic professional development and growth, partnered with Professional Development Solutions at UAH to conduct this program. SLAC is UAH’s new two-week learning event aimed at closing competency gaps and providing education and networking opportunities to senior DA civilian logisticians (GS-14/GS-15 level) from major commands throughout the Army.

SLAC’s visit included a tour of Sanmina and SCI’s facility, as well as a question and answer session with SCI’s leadership team. In addition, informal discussions included topics of interest to the students, including supply chain, manufacturing, contracts, business development, program management, depot and test services, and quality control.

All in all, it was a great visit with a great group of students. Everyone at SCI is looking forward to the next one.

Introducing: The SCI Blog https://www.sci.com/introducing-sci-blog/ https://www.sci.com/introducing-sci-blog/#respond Fri, 08 Sep 2017 20:06:57 +0000 https://www.sci.com/?p=51742 The post Introducing: The SCI Blog appeared first on SCI Technology.

Everybody knows that first impressions are everything. But here at the all-new SCI Blog, we believe they’re not the only thing.

Over the years, we’ve learned that maintaining strong relationships – with our customers, our suppliers, our coworkers and our neighbors – is essential to the way we do business. As you might already know, our business is serving our country and safeguarding the world through the products and services we provide to the Defense & Aerospace sector. For us, it only makes sense to work toward accomplishing this mission by building strong relationships.

After all, the better we know the people we work with – and the better they know us – the better off we all are.

Why An SCI Blog?

That brings us to the reason we’re starting the SCI Blog. Sure, we already have a website full of content about SCI’s wide range of products and services. But we can do more. With this blog, our goal will be to produce content that helps you get to know us even better. In return, we’ll aim to produce content that is valuable to you – our customers, our suppliers, our coworkers and our neighbors.

Sometimes, that content will be a traditional article like this. Sometimes, it could be a video about one of our products or an event we’re attending. Sometimes, it might be an interview with a subject matter expert, or a bit of commentary about a story that is relevant to our industry.

All of the writers will be SCI employees. And if you do business with us, you might just recognize one of your contacts on the byline. So check back from time to time. We’ll be hoping to make a good first impression. And hopefully nurture some lasting relationships.

In the meantime, be sure to watch our video below to learn more about SCI.
