Frequently Asked Questions

The mission of SCI’s Technology segment is to engage with entrepreneurs and businesses of all sizes to develop innovative technologies from prototype to production and beyond.

SCI primarily focuses on projects that require electronics manufacturing and integration. Examples include box builds and Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), but we won’t rule out a project based solely on that criteria. At SCI, we work on projects that matter. That means we’re looking for products that strike a balance between innovation and real-world functionality. Think you have an idea that fits? Don’t hesitate to get in touch.

We’ve worked on an explosive gas monitoring system, a femtosecond laser calibration system, electric motors, various UUVs, torpedo systems, and unmanned aircraft technology—just to name a few projects. But that’s not all we can do. With SCI’s broad range of capabilities and expertise, we’re equipped to take on a wide variety of jobs.

All kinds, from startups and entrepreneurs to large businesses and international corporations. Regardless of who the partner is, our key focus is always on bringing new, innovative technology to market.

SCI is comfortable with a multitude of business arrangements based on the needs of our partners. In the past we’ve entered into teaming agreements, partnerships, manufacturing services agreements and engineering services contracts. In other words, we’re flexible. We work with our partners under the arrangement that works best for bringing new products and services to market as quickly and effectively as possible.

We’re always on the lookout for new projects. You can find us at Association of University Research Park (AURP) events and military trade shows like AUSA (Association of the United States Army), AAAA (Army Aviation Association of America), MDM (Modern Day Marine), SOFIC (Special Operations Forces Industry Conference) and the Navy League Sea-Air-Space Exposition.

SCI has developed a proven, rapid process for vetting and evaluating technology and making go/no go decisions on whether to move forward with a new partner. See our flow chart by clicking here.

SCI is a “venture technologist.”  We do not invest capital into businesses. Instead, we invest with our partners by providing in-kind engineering services and manufacturing support to aid and speed the product-development process.

While SCI celebrates entrepreneurs, we’re at our best when we take prototype-level designs and mature them into production-ready products. “Napkin-sketch” ideas are too early in the development lifecycle for SCI to be a truly productive partner.

SCI maintains a fully staffed, multi-disciplinary engineering organization that’s equipped to provide a full range of proven design services, including design for manufacturability, cost and life cycle support. We also offer rapid prototyping and robust on-site manufacturing assets. Taken together, our wide-ranging capabilities make us a recognized leader in New Product Introduction (NPI).
